Former president Barack Obama believes that the time has come for America to put more women in office.
He spoke to Les Napoleons in Paris this past weekend – a group of financiers, academics, and media leaders. According to the AFP, he stated that the time had come to put more women in power. Why? “Because men seem to be having some problems these days,” he says.
Without naming any names, the reference is clear. Obama was alluding to the “national reckoning” –as it has been called- that has been sweeping the nation. It seems that virtually every day, another story of a man abusing their power dominates the news. Beginning with the ousting of Harvey Weinstein, varying degrees of sexual misconduct have been making headlines everywhere from Hollywood to Washington D.C.
The former president continued to explain that women’s capabilities to execute leadership roles was in part due to the way they’ve adjusted to society. “Not to generalize but women seem to have a better capacity than men do, partly because of their socialization,” he said.
Besides Women in Office, Obama Spoke Another Hot Button Issue
The former president didn’t just speak about the state of power in America. He also took a dig at the current administration. The president remarked that the United States was facing a “Temporary absence of American leadership.” The statement refers to President Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate accord earlier this year. Syria joined the Paris Climate Accord in early November, leaving President Trump the last man standing.
At present, the United States is the only country that remains opposed to the agreement. Scroll down to take the opinion polls!
