Amazon recently announced their plans for total smart home domination – starting with the AmazonBasics Microwave.
So what exactly is it, and will people actually purchase it?
For starters, the kitchen appliance will respond to voice demands. So instead of having to press a bunch of buttons in a desperate attempt to add a little bit of time to your frozen meal, you can just ask Alexa to add 30 seconds from across the room. There’s also a bunch of quick-cook presets that prevent customers from having to go through the trouble of making up guestimating the amount of time it will cost to cook a meal.
That sounds slightly more convenient than a regular microwave… But that’s not the real incentive behind the appliance.
The bigger motivation for Amazon is the fact that it connects through the Alexa Connect Kit. That kit takes typical analog appliances and turns them into smart-home devices, connected through Amazon’s cloud services. And for the e-commerce jungle, that means getting their digital footprint into a host of kitchen-related brands and products.
The question is … How much will the average consumer value having an AmazonBasics microwave?
We asked Survey Junkie members in our daily poll whether they’d purchase one.
Here’s the results.
Looks like Amazon will actually probably see success with this one… And seeing as they’re a consumer-first company, we’re not totally surprised. Over 41.3% of Survey Junkie members said that they’d buy it, and an additional 38% say they’d consider it.
How do you compare to other Survey Junkie members?
