The Nominees For Time’s Person of the Year Are…
President Trump: Donald Trump was person of the year in 2016, after being elected the first United States president to have never held public office prior to his inauguration. According to the president, he “took a pass” at this year’s person of the year:
“Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot,” he tweeted.
A Times spokesperson responded that this wasn’t, in fact, correct information.
Kim Jong Un: North Korea’s leader spent 2017 overseeing ballistic missile tests and sparking fear about the potential of nuclear confrontation. He is another nominee for Person of the Year.

Robert Mueller: Special counsel Robert Mueller has made a name for himself this year investigating the Trump campaign’s potential collusion with Russia.
The #MeToo Movement: Time Magazine nominated this group as Person of the Year. The ousting of Harry Weinstein’s large-scale sexual misconduct sparked a national reckoning. Across the nation, thousands of women and some men used the #metoo hashtag in a discussion about sexual harassment and assault.
The Dreamers: Yet another group to be nominated for Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, the Dreamers are undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. If DACA (Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals) ends next year, the group of young adults are at risk for deportation.
Colin Kaepernick: NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick was one of the most talked-about names in 2017. After he took a knee during the National Anthem of a football game to protest racial injustice, he sparked one of 2017’s largest – and most controversial – movements.
Patty Jenkins: Time Magazine also nominated Wonder Woman’s director Patty Jenkins for 2017’s Person of the Year. The critically acclaimed superhero film has been hailed as a beacon of progress for the depiction of women in the media.
