Over the last several weeks, news pertaining to COVID-19 has permeated the media. The outbreak has disrupted many aspects of daily life, with stores closing and people being advised to shelter in place.

Rest assured that Survey Junkie is still operating and surveys are still here. The entire team at Survey Junkie & DISQO remain committed to keeping the surveys flowing & continuing to give you the opportunity to share your opinion. We will still be around to support you — even as we all work from home.

What We’ve Learned

To understand the full impact of COVID-19, we conducted a series of surveys, and 31,857 of you responded! This two-part study includes a survey portion and a behavioral analysis covering the following topics:

  • People’s confidence in their personal safety & preparedness
  • People’s confidence in public institutions
  • Effects of COVID-19 on shopping & travel
  • Effects of COVID-19 on online browsing behavior

Although there are variations when broken down by region and age group, about half of you reported feeling safe from COVID-19 over the last three weeks. Confidence in the government to handle the outbreak has remained stable, and is currently at 40%.

One third of you reported that the pandemic has affected your existing travel plans. With stricter travel restrictions and social distancing efforts coming into place, this comes as no surprise.

Almost half of you (47%) have made purchases specifically in reaction to the virus. More people are starting to avoid crowds (27%) or stores altogether (7%) while stocking up on non-perishables (29%), household essentials (23%), and cleaning supplies (18%). Stocking up is also contributing to you feeling more prepared (61%) in the event that COVID-19 spreads to your city.

As notable news events surrounding the virus has happened, so searching and browsing activity has increased significantly. These spikes are denoted by the teal and pink lines in the chart below.

Thank you to every member of the Survey Junkie community who participated in this study!
