For many Americans, the end of summer is a difficult transition, returning to the colder weather months and back-to-school blues.
But before you decide to hide your head under the covers until springtime, let’s focus on the good instead. Starbucks will soon return its all-time favorite pumpkin-spice-latte to the menu…
And America’s favorite chocolate candy is revealing their newest flavors. M&M’s are one of Mars Inc.’s most popular creations of all time, and their store-exclusive flavors are sprinkling joy into each pack produced this fall season.
If you’re planning a trip to Target this week, make sure to stop by the candy aisle while you’re there… This year’s highly anticipated seasonal M&M’s is about to be a big hit.
“Cookies and Screeem” is the newest flavor to join M&M’s roster. Inspired by Oreos, these chocolate shells have a white chocolate center wrapped in a dark chocolate outer coating, plus a pretty outlandish speckled design.
Considering that consumers spent over $2.5 billion on Oreos in 2014, we’d say Target’s store-exclusive has some major selling potential.
For something a little less Halloween and a little more fall-festive, head to Walmart for their pumpkin-pie M&M exclusive flavor.
Outside of the store-exclusive fall flavors hitting Target and Walmart, M&M’s has launched its harvest blend for the fall season. These include milk chocolate, peanut, peanut butter, and white candy corn.
And Before Store-Exclusives…
The hard-shelled chocolate candies have undergone some pretty colorful creations since their 1941 invention.
The first flavor twist on the classic? M&M peanuts were produced in 1954.
America’s Best Selling Chocolate Candy
M&M’s have come a long way from their humble origins. One sold in humble cardboard tubes, the famous chocolate candy has become one of the world’s biggest sugar empires to date.
The proof is in the numbers.
M&M’s were the leading chocolate candy brand sold in the US in 2017, with over $688 million in sales. Compare that to second place Hershey, at $383.3 million.
The factories produce over 400 million M&Ms a day.
And together with its other classic chocolate candies, Mars Inc. pulls in $35 billion in global sales, with 200 million customer transactions a day.
One thing is clear. When it comes to a nationwide chocolate addiction, M&Ms are the most popular way for Americans to get their fix.
Not All M&M’s are created equal.
When M&M’s get it right, the chocolate goodness becomes an inspiring addiction.
But not all of the M&M varieties have been hits.
From overzealous experiments to fruit flavors into the chocolate shell, to the divisive candy-corn blend, M&M’s seasonal flavors and limited editions don’t always launch to unanimous praise.
Compare Target’s “Cookies & Screeem” M&Ms to Walmart’s recent launch of “Pumpkin Pie M&Ms,” and let us know which you like more.
Not a fan of either?
Valentine’s Day 2018 will bring us triple chocolate M&Ms … An almost fail-proof crowd pleaser.
And with Christmas spiking online candy sales by 171 percent, we’re sure the Mars candy brand has something special up their sleeves for the holiday season.
