Brookstone is going bankrupt.
The famous tech gadget store has been known throughout the years for selling everything from electronic blankets to fitness trackers.
There was a day where it would be a rare occasion if you didn’t find yourself walking past the Brookstone logo in your local mall. You may even remember trips punctuated by a quick stop-in to the store to test out their high-tech massage chairs. You’d sit down, press the kneading function, and let the blood circulate under the store’s warm lighting before heading back out to finish your shopping spree. Maybe you’d even purchase an item or two, and add some biggest purchases to your holiday wishlist.
But now that e-commerce is a mecca of all things eclectic and electronic, stores like Brookstone are struggling to keep their competitive edge.
We polled members on their recent experience with the store. The results aren’t surprising.
Here’s how many of you DON’T shop at Brookstone.
More than 86 percent of respondents report that they never shop at the tech gadget store. Only 14 percent say they occasionally buy things from Brookstone, and no one shops “often” or “very often”
Conversely, our recent poll about Amazon Prime shows more and more members turning to the Bezos jungle because of tis ultimate convenience. And indeed, less people are frequently brick-and-mortal stores because of just how easy it is to order the same kinds of products online. So it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Brookstone is going bankrupt, joining the cast of iconic characters impacted by the retail apocalypse.
