The new competitor will be available in 2019. In addition to the main Disney catalogue of past titles and original series they plan to pull from Netflix, they’ll also be adding new content from two fan favorites: Star Wars and Marvel.
The company expanded their library when they acquired Fox for $71.3 billion.
What else can you expect on Disney +?
If you’re a fan of the Avengers, you’ll be happy to know about this new addition. Loki, Tom Hiddleston’s Marvel character, will be getting his own original series. Meanwhile, Star War’s “Rogue One” will be getting a prequel series, where Diego Luna plays Cassian Andor.
Other original series include a “High School Musical” reboot, the new season of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” and an animated series of “Monsters, Inc.”
If Disney+ is anything like the company’s other streaming service – ESPN+ – then the outlook should be good. In just five month’s time, the sports-focused platform reached a total of 1 million paid subscribers. And fourth-quarter earnings for the company show Disney beat analysts expectations.
The direct to consumer streaming service gives Disney more control over their library… So if you’re a Netflix user and you want to catch up on your favorite Disney flicks, do so now!
