Target is hiring 120,000 additional employees for the holiday season. That’s a 20 percent increase on last year’s seasonal hires.
And it won’t just be for the brick-and-mortar stores. Target also needs people to help with their online business. They’re doubling their staff for digital orders, which involves helping with Order Pickup and Drive Up services.
In addition to hiring for digital orders, 7,500 employees will help with distribution and and fulfillment centers in order to process freight and fulfill online orders.
And besides hiring new employees, current employees will be offered additional hours throughout the 1800 stores during the holidays.
Target is Hiring and Raising Wage for New Employees
Adding more jobs to the economy isn’t the only thing that Target is planning on doing. The company says that any staff members hired at the store after September 16 will start out at a minimum hourly wage of $12.
That number is a step closer to their main goal – to provide employees with a baseline wage of $15 by the end of 2020. The seasonal staff will also get a store discount, and can participate in the team rewards program that will yield a $500 gift card.
Where do you do your holiday shopping?
The holiday season is the most commercial time of year, so it makes sense that Target would be gearing up with thousands of new employees and overtime.
What we want to know is where you plan to do your holiday shopping. Will you buy most of what you need online, or do you plan to browse in-store? Are you more likely to shop at Walmart, Target, or Amazon – or are you waiting to see where you can get the best deals?
