Trader Joe’s Proves Customers Really Do Come First
An 89-year-old man was snowed in one winter, unable to leave his home in Pennsylvania. His daughter began to worry that her elderly father would not have access to food during the snowstorm.
She called several stores desperately searching for one that would deliver food to her stranded father. Eventually, she got a hold of a customer service rep at Trader Joe’s.
They told her that they normally didn’t deliver to people’s homes. But this situation was different. Because of the circumstances, they said they would be happy to deliver groceries to her father. Not only that – they also went out of their way to suggest grocery items that would work with her father’s low-sodium diet.
But that’s not all they did to show their commitment to their customers.
Trader Joe’s employees didn’t just trek through a Pennsylvania snowstorm to deliver an elderly man his groceries. They did it for free.
After the daughter ordered the food, the employee told her not to worry about the price. They would bring her father his groceries free of charge. Just thirty minutes later, the man received all the groceries he needed – along with some new items suggested by the Trader Joe’s team.
This is a true example of a time when a company is willing to walk the walk when it comes to customer service. Trader Joe’s wouldn’t allow bureaucratic policies to get in their way. Instead, they kept their philosophy simple: do the right thing when a person is in need.
